Updated: 2006-12-29 14:32 The advertising sector is one of fastest growing in the world, registering an annual growth rate of 30 per cent since the 1980s. In 2005, advertising's service trade volume reached a surplus of US$360 million.
The export volume of advertising service trade in the advertising sector totalled US$1.08 billion in 2005, compared with US$220 million in 2000, an average annual growth rate of 37 per cent.
The import volume has also experienced an annual increase of nearly 30 per cent, from US$200 million in 2000 to US$720 million in 2005.
The establishment of wholly foreign-owned enterprises became possible in 2005 with the full opening of the sector, in which the top 10 global advertising agencies had all already established joint ventures.
Television remains as the main channel of advertising, followed by newspapers. Thanks to its flexibility and diversity, outdoor media recently became the third-largest advertising channel. Web-based advertising, with the fast development of internet industry, is also flourishing.
